Hi Gang,
I had a conversation the other day with someone who was talking about how people who overeat and as a result are overweight have a chemical imbalance in their brain that makes them behave that way (thank you Oprah). This may shock you, but I believe them when they say this! I believe them because I have a chemical in my brain that screams…“you stooopid idiot” everytime my alarm goes off at 4:30am for me to get up and go to work. The chemicals say “stay in bed; those people won’t miss you today”. Then I grab myself by the hair (using both hands) and pull myself out of bed. By the time I hit the shower, I am feeling good and ready to start the day.
My point is that often doing the right thing takes effort, but taking a long term view of the benefits will help you make wise choices versus instant gratification.
If people can be addicted to cigarettes, TV, drugs, video games, alcohol and sex, then why not food? Whatever the item, the cure is the same; no magic pill. At some point the person has to decide that the behaviour is going to stop and they take control. All the bad stuff related to the behaviour outweighs the bad stuff that comes with quitting. How many times have you heard someone say, “After my heart attack, I started exercising, quit smoking and started eating properly.” It is a simple decision that is not easily excuted. But, we decide how our life will be by making a thousand little choices everyday. Let’s stay accountable to ourselves and not put our future in the hands of our hormones, chemicals, friends, parents, job etc.
Have a great day gang.
Cheers,
Maria
