Today I want to give you an update on the summer here are Revolution Conditioning – and then we will look ahead to the fall season. Finally, I want to share a new toy with you – maybe something you have never seen before! But first let’s start by explaining how these kids in Ghana (shown in the photo on the left) came to be wearing a Revolution Conditioning t-shirt.
It is a bit of a long story, but here is the quick version. An athlete who I used to train as a high schooler is now in University and as part of his academic program he had the opportunity to volunteer in Africa. His mother is one of the great physios I used to work with when I was the exercise specialist at the Fowler Kennedy Sport Medicine Clinic, so I still see her at social functions from time-to-time. She mentioned this great opportunity for her son James (we used to call him Jamie, but now that he is a 6’4″ strapping young man – James seems more appropriate). I told her that I would love to donate some sports equipment for the kids if he could take it over.
Well, James emailed me and we decided that soccer balls would be the easiest and most appropriate option so we got 10 soccer balls and I gave him a Revolution t-shirt to take on his adventure. He said the kids went crazy for the soccer balls and he spread them out among different communities so everyone got a couple of balls.
It looks like they were loving the shirt too. I have another photo with three of them wearing it at the same time – one kid has his head through the neck hole and two other kids each with their head through the sleeve holes – it is hilarious! Anyway, James had a great experience – it will definitely change his life perspective.
As I mentioned last week, a group of us from Revolution Conditioning are doing the Terry Fox Run as a team (actually you can run, walk, roller blade or bike). My goal is for the team to raise $500 and we are already up to $150. If you would like to join us in person or just join the team in spirit by donating – visit this link Team Revolution for Terry Fox.
On September 23rd I will be running a Speed & Agility workshop for coaches. The workshop is hosted by the University of Western Ontario and will take place at their new Thompson Arena addition which houses a beautiful recreation centre. The clinic runs from 7-9pm. I will post more details in a few days, but for now, mark that on your calendar if you are looking for ways to improve the speed and agility of you athletes (while reducing their risk of injury).
Finally, check out the video below to see my newest toy that I not only use with my hockey players, but with all of my athlete training groups from adults to high school. Speaking of my small group athlete training sessions – my fall schedule has filled quicker than expected again. For high school athletes I have 1-2 spots available on Thursdays from 4-5pm. That is not to say spots won’t open up throughout the fall as athletes get into their seasons, but that is all I have for now. You can always get on the waiting list until your preferred time comes up. For the Adult groups I have 1-2 spots available on Tuesdays & Thursdays at 6am and that is all.
Now, check out the video….
Cheers,
Maria
